From an early age Benjamin knew he wanted to become a screenwriter. His first play won a short play competition at the Theatre Royal Stratford East and ran for two nights. He went on to write a full length play which earned him a place on the Young Writers’ Programme at the Royal Court and also grabbed the attention from senior figures at Soho Theatre.
At the NFTS he has worked closely with tutors on two major projects. Akosua, a feature set in his parents’ native Gh ana is a comedy/drama centred on an eleven year old girl with a talent for football. She is convinced by her chancer Uncle that they can trick European scouts into believing she’s a boy.
Trainees is a television series that gives a very British take on the musical genre. Glee minus the jazz hands, set in the Grime/UK Urban scene. Ben has also maintained his theatre connections and wrote a play titled Retail Retail about his experiences working in a high street fashion store on Bond Street.
