David Mitchell has been named in Time magazine's top 100 most influential people in the world today.
The Time 100 is Time magazine's list of the 100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world. Each year only the five most influential groups are included: Leaders & Revolutionaries, Builders & Titans, Artists & Entertainers, Scientists & Thinkers, and Heroes & Icons. Within each category, only the 20 most influential people are selected, for a grand total of 100 each year.
David Mitchell is the author of four novels two of which have been short-listed for the ManBooker prize. His first novel, Ghostwritten, was published in 1999 just after he turned 30, and it won the Mail on Sunday/ John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award.His two subsequent novels, Number9dream (2001) and Cloud Atlas (2004), were both shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and in 2003, he was selected as one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists.
Black Swan Green, David Mitchell's most recent book, was published by Sceptre in May 2006 and was nominated for the US-based Quill Awards 2006, and shortlisted in the Novel category for the Costa Book Awards 2006 (formerly Whitbread Book Awards).
