Before becoming a full-time writer Carol Topolski was a practising psychotherapist, and has also worked in rock 'n roll, advertising, teaching in prisons, working as a Probation Officer, setting up and running a Women's Refuge, a Rape Crisis Centre, and an NHS psychotherapy service for women in a Brixton council flat. She has also worked as a film censor for the British Board of Film Classification for 12 years and is now a trustee of Create Arts, leading writing projects in prisons and with vulnerable young people in the community.
Carol's first novel, Monster Love (2008) was long-listed for the Orange Prize; and her second novel Do No Harm was published in 2010. Carol studied English at Sussex University, and is a graduate of the UEA Creative Writing Course. She has two children and three grandchildren.
