Sir Chris Bonington is Britain’s best known mountaineer with more than forty years experience climbing throughout the world. He scaled Everest in 1985 at the age of 50 and has made many first ascents in the Alps and the greater ranges of the world.

Born in 1934, created a CBE in 1962 and knighted in 1996, he is married with two sons and has lived in Cumbria for over thirty years.

Sir Chris is an honorary life Vice-President of the Council for National Parks and a past President of the Alpine Club, in 2009 he was made deputy patron of the Outward Bound Trust, and in 2010 he was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO) in the Queen’s Birthday Honour List.
