David Atherton is a food writer and the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2019. On the show, he impressed the judges and public with his interesting flavour combinations, the healthy elements to his bakes and his cool, calm and collected approach to cooking. His cookbook My First Cook Book was published this year.
David considers healthy eating central to a healthy lifestyle, but with no compromise on flavour and texture. At the core of his food ethos is the belief that good health comes from fuelling your body effectively, rather than limiting the calories you eat. His attitude to food has been shaped by his work for more than a decade in the international health arena. He has a masters’ degree in public health, a post-graduate qualification in expedition & wilderness medicine, and has taught at major universities on HIV and malaria.
David currently wrote a fortnightly column of healthy cookery for The Guardian named Fit Food with David Atherton and has appeared on Blue Peter as a guest chef. David has partnered with PAUL to introduce their new At Home in May 2021, David's second Cook Book, Good to Eat, will be released.
