Hilary A. Hallett is the Mendelson Family Professor and director of American studies at Columbia University where she teaches on the history of popular culture, sex, and race. The author of Go West, Young Women! The Rise of Early Hollywood, she has written for outlets like the Los Angeles Times and Public Books and has also acted as an historical consultant for feature documentaries and television shows. She grew up in Missouri, but has resided for decades in New York City and, more recently, Vermont with her husband, two sons, and two Siberian cats.
