Luiz Alfredo Garcia-Roza was born in 1936 in Rio de Janeiro. He holds degrees in philosophy and psychology and was a lecturer at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. The author of eight books on psychoanalysis and philosophy, he left academia to write crime fiction, the Inspector Espinosa series. His first novel, The Silence of the Rain, won the Jabuti Award in 1997.
His works have been translated into eight different languages and published in nine countries.
