Matt James is a garden designer, broadcaster and senior lecturer teaching on horticulture degree programmes at Duchy College, Cornwall. This follows five years teaching on the renowned Garden Design degree course at University College, Falmouth (now Falmouth University).

Channel 4’s The City Gardener introduced Matt to the gardening public; the series was later broadcast around the globe. Two series about urban garden design in the US soon followed. Matt continues to make regular appearances on television most recently on ITV’s Love Your Garden, BBC 2’s Great Garden Revival and C4’s Weekend Kitchen with Waitrose. He also contributes regularly to Gardeners’ Question Time on BBC Radio 4.

Matt has written four books on gardening and garden design. The Urban Gardener for the Royal Horticultural Society was published in April 2014. His fifth book, How to Plant a Garden, was published in 2015, again for the RHS. Matt has also written for numerous publications on gardening and garden design including The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times, Real Homes, Garden Life and The Garden.

Matt has won awards for his design work and continues to run a design practice based in Cornwall, working in the UK and abroad.
