Dan Reed

Profile

Dan Reed has won many awards for his powerful documentary work. He also writes and directs fiction.

His BAFTA-winning and Primetime-Emmy-nominated Terror in Mumbai (2009) combined the terrorists’ intercepted cellphone conversations, dramatic CCTV footage and haunting 35mm images of night-time Mumbai to devastating effect. The New York Times described it as “a model of the genre, with a combination of clarity and breathless pace reminiscent of a Paul Greengrass Bourne movie.”

Dan went on to make the BAFTA-winning Battle for Haiti (2011) for Channel 4 and Frontline (WGBH), a stunningly-photographed documentary about the mass break-out from Haiti’s jails during last year’s devastating earthquake.

In 2007, Dan made his first feature, Straightheads, with Film Four, the UK Film Council and Sony Pictures. The film starred Gillian Anderson and Danny Dyer and was met with both outrage and critical acclaim, with The Times picking it as one of their top 100 films of the year.

Alongside his documentary work Dan has directed serial drama including Waking the Dead, Poirot, Lewis and City of Vice.
