Derek Boyes is a writer and director who graduated from the National Film and Television School in 2004.

His ambitious and highly imaginative graduation short, The Happiness Thief, was officially selected in competition at Cannes that same year and went on to play at film festivals across the globe.

Since then, Derek has directed shorts for the BBC and Screen South while developing a slate of feature films. His first feature, Blackout, is a gritty neo-noir thriller that was optioned by Ipso Facto Films and developed by Moxie Makers as part of The Big Pitch scheme in 2008.

In addition to his writing and directing work, Derek runs film making workshops at secondary schools, summer camps and for the homeless. He is an avid collector of original British cinema posters and runs an online film poster shop.
