Dexter Filkins, is a foreign correspondent for The New York Times, and was based in their Baghdad bureau from March 2003 until September 2006. Before the Iraq war, he was based in Istanbul and in Afghanistan, where he covered the war in 2001 and 2002.

He was a fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights at Harvard University, where he wrote The Forever War (Knopf 2008), a book based on his work in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist and has received a George Polk Award and two Overseas Press Club awards.
