Downton Abbey wins Golden Globe Award

Downton Abbey, starring Laura Carmichael and Sophie McShera, has won the 2012 Golden Globe for Best Television Mini Series.

The hit drama series about the Crawley family and their servants, in which Laura plays middle sister Lady Edith and Sophie, kitchen maid Daisy, was named Best Television Mini Series at the Golden Globes ceremony in Los Angeles.

The period drama, which brought in over 10 million viewers for its Christmas special on ITV, began showing on US TV channel PBS in January 2011.

Downton Abbey is set to return to ITV for a third series in the autumn of 2012.
