1879 - 1976
Ernest H. Shepard was born in London in 1879. He won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Arts, and later worked for Punch magazine as a cartoonist and illustrator.
Shepard's drawings appeared in many books for adults and children, but he is best known as the illustrator of A A Milne's Winnie the Pooh stories, and Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows.
