Eve Haas was just 9 years old when she and her family fled Nazi Germany and settled in London. During her search for her ancestors she was given unprecedented access to records in East Germany at a time when the Cold War was at its height. Despite fear of arrest in a Communist country not used to Westerners delving into archives she remained determined to uncover the truth and her success in tracking down her family secrets astonished the experts.
In January 2009 she was invited to visit the Bellevue Palace in Berlin, once home to Prince August, by the German President, Horst Kohnler. Married to husband Ken for 42 years until he died in 1990 they had three sons. Eve Haas still lives in North London
