Biography

Fiona Allen was born in Bury, Lancashire. She has appeared in various sketch shows, including Goodness Gracious Me and The All Star Comedy Show, but most famously Smack the Pony. She has also appeared in television dramas such as Dalziel and Pascoe and Coronation Street, in Happiness alongside Paul Whitehouse, and on film as Sandra in the film version of the famous comic strip Fat Slags, and Smirgut the Fierce in Gladiatress.

Fiona is married to the son of TV chat show host Michael Parkinson, also called Michael. In the late 1980s she worked the door on Manchester nightclub the Hacienda, ran The Area (Factory Records' shop) at Afflecks Palace, and she makes a brief appearance playing herself in the film 24 Hour Party People.

More recently Fiona appeared in the second series of the hit E4 teenage drama Skins, playing Maxxie's mum, Jackie Oliver. Fiona also played the role of Georgia Stevenson in the BBC drama Waterloo Road, while often appearing as herself on shows like Mock the Week and 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Distinctly contemporary. Decidedly maverick.
