I began working in the book industry in 1989, as a bookseller, and joined Curtis Brown in 2005 from John Murray at Hodder Headline / Hachette, where I was Publishing Director.
Before that, I had been Publisher of the Pan Macmillan divisions Sidgwick & Jackson, Boxtree and Channel Four Books, where I was lucky enough to be responsible for a number of bestsellers over the course of a decade. I’ve also worked in New York in both the agenting and publishing sides of the business.
My client list embraces non-fiction – from personality-led and personality-driven projects to history and lifestyle, by high profile authors or leading media companies – and a select fiction list featuring intelligent writing with commercial genre awareness.
I've been twice shortlisted for Agent of the Year at the Bookseller British Book Industry Awards, and I am Vice President of the Association of Authors' Agents.
My profile page features clients with projects appearing in 2014. Follow the Clients tab to the left of the page for a full client list. You can also follow my sporadic forays on Twitter @gordonwise.
My assistant is Richard Pike.
