Guy Gavriel Kay was born and educated in Canada. He was chosen to assist JRR Tolkien’s son Christopher in editing his father’s unpublished work, The Silmarillon, while still a student at the University of Manitoba. He completed his law degree at the University of Toronto before writing his first novel, The Summer Tree, in 1984.
Now the author of over twelve novels and regarded as one of the most talented historical fantasy novelists writing today, he has received numerous awards for his work including the World Fantasy Award in 2008 for Ysabel. In 2014 he was a Member of the Order of Canada for his outstanding contribution to the field of speculative fiction.
