HarperCollins to publish Brian Aldiss backlist

Brian Aldiss backlist to be published by HarperCollins

January 30, 2012

HarperCollins imprint The Friday Project has acquired more than 50 titles by Brian Aldiss, OBE.

This enormous collection of titles from one of Britain’s most prolific, inventive and respected authors comprises Aldiss’ complete short story collection – together amounting to over 300 individual stories – as well as a broad selection of non-fiction, literary fiction and 'metaphysical realism', the description that Aldiss now prefers to use for works traditionally categorised as Science Fiction.

The Friday Project will reissue these titles in a variety of formats, in the process reviving Aldiss’ extensive backlist for the enjoyment of both established fans and new readers.  The list will reflect an illustrious career, spanning the full range of literary forms associated with Aldiss.

The first re-issues will be The Squire Quartet, a series of four linked novels which together document British life during the latter parts of the Cold War through the eyes of Thomas Squire. This will be published in April 2012.

Six completely new books are included in the deal, the first of which is Finches of Mars, due to be published in Spetember 2012.  It has been described by Aldiss as his “final science-fiction novel”.
