Three brothers' find their bootlegging business under threat during the era of Prohibition in Virginia.

The film is based on Matt Bondurant's The Wettest County in the World, a fictionalised account of his grandfather Jack and grand-uncles Forrest and Howard. 

Lawless will be in competition at Cannes 2012 and is due for an American release in autumn 2012.
