Uncle Vanya
Young Vic,
Director Joe Hill-Gibbons
This workshop production of Chekhov's masterpiece, directed by Young Vic associate Joe Hill-Gibbons, was rehearsed over three weeks and evolved over a fortnight of performances.
Played in the round on an open set cluttered with the various rooms of the Serebryakov household, the production sought to explore the contemporary implications of the play. Jonathan played Astrov, memorably swinging a broom around as if a microphone in an impromptu drunken jam session with Stuart Quarrie's Vanya.
