Mark Quartley stars in Private Peaceful
September 13, 2012
Mark Quartley reprises his role as Private Tommo in the one man show Private Peaceful for the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London’s West End.
Tommo, a young First World War soldier awaiting the firing squad, looks back at his short but joyful past growing up in rural Devon. We are let into his world – first days of school, the accident that killed his father and the love of his life – Molly.
Written by Michael Morpurgo, the award-winning writer of War Horse, and directed by Simon Reade, this eagerly anticipated production was described by the Sunday Express as “An infinitely touching, intensely acted account of a young First World War Soldier’s final day.”
Mark Quartley finished his first season with the RSC earlier this year, and has just finished playing Ferdinand in The Tempest opposite Tim Pigott-Smith at the Theatre Royal Bath.
Private Peaceful plays at Theatre Royal Haymarket until 28 September 2012.
