Matt James brings his passion for eco-friendly gardens and
sustainability to a whole new generation of gardeners. He first appeared
on TV as the gardening expert for Channel 4's Selling Houses in
2004 which led to his own Channel 4 series. Matt's latest venture saw him join the expert team on ITV's Love Your Garden With Alan Titchmarsh.
Broadcast in 2004, The City Gardener showed people with
limited space, time and cash how to transform messy back-garden plots
into stylish extra 'rooms'. The same format has been used in the US,
where he has made Urban Outsiders, and for Matt James'
Eco Eden, where he turns natural
disasters into eco-friendly gardens.
Matt's gardening career began when he was a teenager working on a small farm after he realised that he could combine his passion for horticulture with earning a living. Matt has since gone on to win several honours for his work. He won Londoner of the Year in the field of Environment and Regeneration, in recognition of his work establishing a successful circuit of Farmers' Markets in the capital, and two Gold awards at the annual California landscape Contractors Association Awards.
Matt also lectures on Garden Design at Falmouth University College in Cornwall on a part time basis. He has written several books and is the News of the World's gardens expert.
