Melanie La'Brooy has an Honours degree in Arts from Melbourne University, majoring in Art History and Classics. She worked for several years for the art auction house Christie's in both Sydney and Melbourne, where she trained as a specialist in Australian paintings. She later spent a year working for one of the most exclusive commercial art galleries in Australia.
Following the success of her debut novel, she gave up her career in the art world to become a full-time writer. Melanie is a regular contributor to the respected Melbourne newspaper The Age and is also a supporter of the International Women's Development Agency. She lives in Melbourne with her husband and two sons.
