The British Academy Film Award nominations for 2018 have been announced with nominations for David Schneider’s The Death of Stalin, Paul McGuigan’s Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool and Colin O’Toole’s Cowboy Dave.

The Death of Stalin has picked up nominations for Best British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Co-written by David Schneider and directed by Armando Iannucci, the film satirises the Soviet supremo and his senior advisers as they battle it out for the top spot following Stalin’s death. The film stars Paul Whitehouse, Paul Ready, Tim Steed and Roger Ashton-Griffiths.

Cowboy Dave, written & directed by Colin O’Toole and starring Steve Evets, is an English folk tale set in the suburbs of Manchester that charts the coming together of a drifter, a war party and a hustler and has been nominated for Best British Short Film.

Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool directed by Paul McGuigan, and previous winner of the Hollywood Film Award, has received nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool explores the tragic life of Hollywood sensation Gloria Grahame and is based on Peter Turner’s memoir of the same name.

The Baftas will be held at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday, February 18 and the awards will be presented by Joanna Lumley.
