Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige star in Submarine
September 15, 2010
Submarine, which stars Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige as two Welsh teenagers in their first proper relationships, will be distributed by Weinstein Co in America and Canada after a successful premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Richard Ayoade, the coming of age comedy is based on Joe Dunthorne’s novel of the same name and follows Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts), a teenager stuck in Swansea, and his simultaneous bids to save his parents’ marriage and lose his virginity before turning sixteen. Jordana (Yasmin Paige) is Oliver’s first proper girlfriend and he’s desperate not to derail the relationship before it’s begun.
Already billed as “one of the best films of the Toronto International Film Festival 2010” by film critic Alex Billington, Submarine has been widely praised. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Mark Olsen says, “it is Roberts and Paige, as Oliver’s mean spirited-love interest, who most carry the story…the sequence of their first evening of seduction is at once hilariously awkward yet tender and heartwarming.”
Melanie Walters also features as Jordana’s mother, while Edwin Ashcroft plays local-lad Dafydd.
