New Year opens with a plethora of new shows

The New Year opened with a fantastic range of new shows across BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
Echo Beach and
Moving Wallpaper were ITV1's new soap within a soap. With episodes written by
Jane Bodie and directed by
John Hardwick and
Suri Krishnamma, this all-star cast production set in a surfer community in Cornwall was a must-watch.
Never Better,
Fintan Ryan's original black comedy series was first aired on BBC2. It stars Stephen Mangan as Keith, a recovering alcoholic struggling to get things right as he comes to terms with sobriety in a blackly funny series with wonderful characterisation.
Mistresses, co-created and directed (episodes 1 & 2) by
SJ Clarkson, is a new series focussing on four female thirty-something friends who all have one thing in common: infidelity. Episodes 2 & 4 were written by
Richard Warlow.
City of Vice, took over Channel 4's 9pm Monday night slot. Episodes 1 and 3 were written by
Peter Harness and directed by
Dan Reed. The docudrama is set in mid 18th century London and chronicles the life and times of London's crime-ridden underbelly, with its child prostitution, gay subculture and fledgling police force.
