Daniel Mays stars alongside Calvin Demba and Peter Wright in The Red Lion, a new play by Patrick Marber directed by Ian Rickson at The National Theatre.
Marber’s play explores the world of non-league football, revolving around the arrival of a promising young player, Jordan, at a semi-professional football club and the effect it has on members of the club’s management.
Daniel plays Kidd, an ambitious football manager determined to take Jordan on as his protégé. This is Daniel’s first play at the National, having previously appeared in Mojo at the Harold Pinter Theatre and various productions at The Royal Court and Donmar Warehouse. He has recently finished shooting the film adaptation of Dad’s Army opposite Michael Gambon and Bill Nighy and will be seen alongside Daniel Radcliffe in Twentieth Century Fox’s feature Victor Frankenstein this September.
The Red Lion will play in rep at the National's Dorfman Theatre until 30th September.
