Dinard picks Boy A, Hunger and The Market

Hunger

August 14, 2008

Enda Walsh's film Hunger, Ben Hopkins' film The Market and Cuba Pictures' first production Boy A, written by Mark O'Rowe, have all been selected to screen at this year's Dinard Film Festival 2008.

Hunger by Enda Walsh opened at this year's Cannes Festival, where it won the prestigious Camera d'Or. It follows the struggle of Irish hunger striker Bobby Sands, who was the first activist to starve himself to death over the conflict in Ireland.

Set in Turkey, Ben Hopkins' film The Market tells the story of a trader who sees an opportunity to make his fortune when he is offered a mission to cross the Balkan border to purchase medicine and addresses the moral complexities of the black market.

Boy A follows a child murderer attempting to reintegrate into normal life after a lengthy jail sentence. Director John Crowley and lead actor Andrew Garfield both won BAFTAs at this year's awards for their parts in the film.
