George Kay's Double Lesson airs on Channel 4

Double Lesson

July 14, 2011

Double Lesson will be shown on Channel 4 and Channel 4HD on Friday 15th July at 7.30pm as part of the First Cuts series.

Written and directed by George Kay this powerful monologue is performed to camera by Phil Davis and tells the story of David De Gale, a ficitonal secondary school teacher, who faces mounting pressure at home and at his school. When he lashes out at a pupil he must face the consequences.

Based on real cases and factual research the film explores how and why teachers can lose control and how pupils, colleagues and family treat them when they do.

"Make time, if you can, for this superb filmed monologue, written and directed by a bright young talent called George Kay. It stars Phil Davis as a teacher who attacked a pupil in his classroom and is now facing trial...he reflects on the events with enough honesty, gallows humour and insight to warrant fair comparison with the characters from Alan Bennett's Talking Heads series. An eye-opening, award-worthy half-hour of television." Peter Naughton, The Daily Telegraph

Truthful, appalling and heartbreaking all at once, it is the realisation of everything that First Cut aspires to. David Chater, The Times

"haunting… subtly written, beautifully delivered by Davis… writer/director George Kay is a name to watch"
Radio Times

"Phil Davis gives a mesmeric performance… extraordinary… It's riveting viewing" ***** Daily Mail
