Happy Valley returns to BBC1

The BAFTA-winning series, Happy Valley returns to BBC One on Tuesday 9th February with a number of Curtis Brown clients returning in leading roles and a few new faces.

Picking up 18 months after Catherine Cartwright caught Tommy Lee Royce, the police sergeant is back on the beat in Calder Valley. While out solving a bizarre case of sheep rustling, Catherine discovers a decomposed body hidden in a garage, and it soon turns out that the victim is someone close to home.

Siobhan Finneran continues to play Clare Cartwright, Catherine’s sister, a former drug-addict and aging rock-chick. Siobhan could recently be seen in Midwinter of the Spirit on ITV and is about to start filming The Moorside Project for BBC One.

Ramon Tikaram reprises his role as police chief Praveen Badal. Ramon has recently been seen in Fortitude for Sky Atlantic and is currently shooting the 2nd series. He was also recently seen in the Wachowski’s latest feature, Jupiter Ascending.

Karl Davies returns as Daniel, Catherine’s son. Karl is currently shooting a leading role in new ITV drama Brief Encounters and recently finished on Alan Ball’s pilot Virtuoso for HBO. He was most recently seen in George Kay’s hit comedy series My Mad Fat Diary for E4.  

Shane Zaza continues as policeman Shafiq Shah, who works alongside Catherine in the West Yorkshire station. Shane played one of the leads in Rufus Norris’s production of Behind the Beautiful Forevers at the National and also in Debbie Tucker Green’s play Hang at the Royal Court.

Matthew Lewis joins the cast as Sean, a wayward soul who works for Nev. Matthew is best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter films. He is currently starring in Amazon’s Ripper Street and will next be seen in MGM’s film adaptation of Me Before You alongside Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke. 

Robert Emms joins the series as Darly Baines, a young man with a disturbing history. Robert recently starred in Capital, and can next be seen in The Living and The Dead, both for BBC One.

Karen Bryson will play Dr Carol Fowler, a pathologist. Karen recently appeared in BBC’s Cuffs and is best known for her award winning role as Avril in Channel 4’s Shameless.

Paul Brennen appears as Tommy's Custodial Officer. Paul will next be seen in Dark Angel on ITV alongside Joanne Froggatt and in the BBC's Silent Witness.

Happy Valley: Series Two will begin Tuesday 9th February on BBC One at 9pm.
