Mark Gatiss leads The First Men in the Moon

Mark Gatiss as Professor Cavor in The First Men in The Moon

October 18, 2010

Mark Gatiss stars in his own adaptation of HG Wells’ sci-fi novel The First Men in The Moon for BBC4, which also features Julia Deakin.

Mark plays the eccentric Professor Cavor whose invention cavorite has the power to render the air above it weightless. His friend, bankrupt writer and failed businessman Julius (played by Rory Kinnear) quickly sees the economic potential in Cavor’s invention and both set off on the ultimate journey of discovery to the moon, unaware of what awaits them there.

Julia Deakin plays Mrs Fitt, an old-fashioned barmaid in the Professor’s local pub.

The single film for BBC4 was directed by Damon Thomas and produced by Mark and Damon’s company Can Do Productions for BBC4.
