Phoebe Fox is to star in BBC’s three-part drama Life In Squares about the lives and loves of the extraordinary Bloomsbury Group.
Life In Squares dramatizes the close and often fraught relationship between sisters Vanessa Bell and Virginia Woolf, and Vanessa’s sexually complicated alliance with gay artist Duncan Grant, as they and their group of like-minded friends navigate their way through love, sex and artistic life through the first half of the 20th century.
Life in Squares is presented from the perspective of Vanessa Bell, played by Phoebe Fox. Bell is an English painter and interior designer, member of the Bloomsbury group and the sister of Virginia Woolf. Phoebe is currently filming the lead in Stephen Poliakoff's new series Close To The Enemy and her other TV credits include The Hollow Crown II for BBC2 and Black Mirror for Channel 4. Phoebe was nominated for an Olivier award this year for her performance in A View From The Bridge, which will transfer to Broadway this Autumn. Phoebe can also be seen in cinemas opposite Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman in Eye in The Sky.
Marianne Oldham plays the elegant, cosmopolitan Mary Hutchinson, Clive’s mistress. Clive Bell is one of the worldliest of the Bloomsbury Group. Other TV credits include The Crimson Field and The Musketeers for BBC One; Foyle’s War for ITV1 and Obsession for the Discovery Channel. Marianne recently finished shooting feature, Absolutely Anything,starring alongside Kate Beckinsale and Simon Pegg. She’s soon to start shooting on BBC One’s new Sunday night drama, The Living and the Dead.
Life in Squares is directed by Simon Kaijser and will air on BBC Two at 9pm on Monday 27th July.
