Michiko Kakutani's Ex Libris and Dara McAnulty's Diary of a Young Naturalist have been shortlisted for the Waterstones Book of the Year 2020.
Since it was first introduced in 2012, Waterstones Book of the Year seeks to recognise outstanding books, chosen by the booksellers who recommend them every day. Recent winners have included Sally Rooney’s Normal People and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy. The inaugural winner was Russell Norman's Polpo: A Venetian Cookbook (Of Sorts).
Ex Libris is the latest treat for booklovers from legendary critic Michiko Kakutani, a beautifully illustrated primer on 100 books to read and re-read from Homer's The Odyssey to Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan Novels.
Diary of a Young Naturalist is teenager Dara McAnulty's first book on his autism and its interrelation to his love of the natural world. It has been nominated in 3 different categories for the Irish Book Awards and was longlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize.
