Write Your Children's Novel with Curtis Brown Creative

Jul 4, 2017

Curtis Brown Creative, the UK’s only creative-writing school led by literary agents, is inviting applications for the 15 places on its Autumn 2017 online Writing YA and Children’s Fiction course. The deadline to submit work is at midnight on Sunday 17 September – and applicants are asked to send in the 3,000-word opening to a novel-in-progress, plus a synopsis. Those who wish to be considered are also required to fill in a short application form.

The Writing YA and Children’s Fiction course (16 October 2017 to 22 January 2018), taught by award-winning children’s and YA author Catherine Johnson (above), brings all the ingredients of the school’s London-based course to those who prefer to study more flexibly from home. It is tailored specifically to those working on Young Adult (12+), Middle Grade (9–12) or Young Fiction (7–9). As well as intensive workshops and one-to-one tutorials, it includes dedicated online attention from our literary agents in the form of a Q&A day and a special session in which students can get feedback on their covering letters.

At the end of the course, students are invited to submit their 3,000-word openings and synopses to be read by the Curtis Brown and C+W literary-agent teams.

Curtis Brown Creative has seen 33 of its former students go on to secure major publishing deals. The writing school finds talented authors through a selective application process and helps them to get the best out of their novels-in-progress.
