Six up for Writers Guild Awards 2009

Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley

Peter Harness, Enda Walsh, Tony Roche, Tony Saint, Katie Hims and Mark Catley have all been nominated for Writers Guild Awards for 2009.

Peter Harness' feature film Is Anybody There? starring Sir Michael Caine and Bill Milner has been nominated in the Best Screenplay Newcomer category. A moving story of a young boy growing up in an old people's home and befriending the newest resident, Clarence, a regretful, forgetful magician.

Hunger, written by Enda Walsh, has been nominated in the Best Feature Film Screenplay category. The film won the Camera D'or at the Cannes Film Festival 2008, and was BAFTA nominated in the Best Screenplay category.

In The Loop, co-written by Tony Roche, has also been nominated in the Best Screenplay section. The film is a comedy, which follows UK-US diplomatic relations in the build up to a fictitious and controversial war. The film stars Peter Capaldi, Tom Hollander and James Gandolfini.

The one-off television drama about Margaret Thatcher's struggle to be selected as a parliamentary candidate in a winnable constituency, Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley, written by Tony Saint, has been nominated in the category of television short form drama.

Katie Hims has been nominated in the Radio Drama Category for her BBC Radio 4 afternoon play about gun crime, The Gunshot Wedding.

Mark Catley is the lead writer and series consultant on the BBC hospital drama Casualty, which has been nominated in the category of Television Soap Continuing Drama against Doctors and Coronation Street
