Nick Collett is an award-winning director who specialises in comedy, both for live and for TV.
This year Nick has directed two sitcom pilots for BBC3: Flat TV, which stars Tom Rosenthal and Naz Osmanoglu (for BBC in-house) and Fried, starring Katy Wix, Simon Greenall and Mandeep Dhillon (for Two Brothers Pictures).
Nick has just finished a series of Comedy Blaps (for Channel 4 and Retort): Chewing Gum, written by and starring Michaela Coel is an adaptation of her critically acclaimed play at the National Theatre. Previously Nick directed the series of Blaps for comedian Claudia O’Doherty (C4 and Bwark), which can be seen here.
Nick developed his keen eye for visuals directing music videos and commercials, whilst his experience on the live comedy circuit honed his performance directing and ability to land a joke. Nick has directed many Edinburgh shows including Sam Fletcher’s Good On Paper, which was nominated for a Foster’s Comedy Award and had a sell-out run at the Soho Theatre.
Nick has a wealth of experience and is comfortable directing both long and short-form material (he’s shot season trails for Have I got News For You and VT’s for The Last Leg), as well as script-editing, development and live readthroughs.
He is also an accomplished photographer and is currently shooting an ongoing series of comedians' portraits, captured in the moments after they leave stage. A selection can be seen on The Guardian website here.
