Nick Payne wins Harold Pinter Award

Constellations, written by Nick Payne

July 09, 2012

Nick Payne has been announced as the second recipient of the Harold Pinter Playwright's Award. The prize, first awarded to Anders Lustgarten in 2011 is awarded annually by Harold Pinter's widow, Lady Antonia Fraser, and is designed to support a new commission at the Royal Court.

Nick was a member of the Royal Court's Young Writer's Programme and made his debut at the Court in 2010 with Wanderlust. His most recent play, Constellations, premièred at the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs to critical acclaim and enjoyed a sell-out run. It will transfer to the Duke of York's Theatre this Autumn as part of the Royal Court's West End season.

Lady Antonia Fraser said of the award, "New writing was always intensely important to Harold, and Nick Payne, already the author of a wonderful play, is the ideal recipient of the 2012 Award."
