Patricia McCormick has worked as a freelance journalist and as professor of Journalism at Columbia University. She was a National Book Award finalist for Sold in 2006 and her groundbreaking first book, Cut, is now considered one of the seminal books on self-harm.

To research Purple Heart, Patricia interviewed soldiers as well as the families of soldiers who went to Iraq and never returned. Patricia McCormick’s novels have sold more than 500.000 copies.
