Philip Gawthorne is a writer for film, television and theatre, who was listed by Broadcast magazine as one of the top ten writers in the UK under the age of thirty.
His stage plays have been performed internationally, including at David Mamet's Atlantic Theatre Studios, The Sanford Meisner Theatre and Manhattan Theatre Source in New York and The Old Vic, Royal Court and Soho Theatre in London. He has recently been developing new work through the Old Vic New Voices programme and was invited to participate in a David Mamet workshop there, which was run by Kevin Spacey.
He is a graduate of the elite BBC Writers Academy and has written extensively for several of BBC One's flagship dramas, routinely receiving excellent reviews from TV critics for his episodes.
His play Modern Life is Rubbish was nominated for a New York Innovative Theatre Award and has since been turned into an award-winning short film starring Rafe Spall, which was accepted into over 25 top international film festivals. Following its screening at BAFTA, it was subsequently optioned and developed into a feature-script. Philip's feature-film version of Modern Life Is Rubbish was included on the prestigious 2010 Brit List (which lists the best screenplays in the entire country) and is scheduled to begin shooting in 2012, produced by Serotonin Films.
He is currently under commission developing several other feature-film projects with top producers in the US and the UK, including one for Liberty Films, producers of the acclaimed sci-fi film Moon. Philip has been particularly praised for his ability to work in a variety of genres whilst always maintaining his distinct authorial voice.
His play The Thrill Of The Chase opens in New York in February 2012.
