Richard graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Architecture before becoming a director. Early success in documentary with the critically acclaimed Cardgame, was followed by several short films that were screened at festivals worldwide. Hungry won a number of prizes, including the silver spire at San Francisco and the press award at Clermont Ferrand, as well as securing him a place on the prestigious First Film Foundation Trip to the US.
Since then Richard has directed a number of high profile TV projects including Life on Mars, Dr Who, The Whistleblowers, and Gunrush, a single drama starring Timothy Spall for ITV. His feature projects include The Container, a thriller set in West Africa, Lucid Waking, a low budget sci-fi and The Silence, a psychological horror film.
