Pen-Faulkner Award

February 23, 2012

Steven Millhauser is one of five finalists nominated for the prestigious 2012 PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. We Others: New and Selected Stories, published in 2011 is a collection of short stories which draws together three decades of Millhauser’s literary career. He won the Pullizer Prize in 1997 for his novel Martin Dressler: The Tale of an American Dreamer and has published several collections of short stories and novellas.

The award is granted by the PEN/Faulkner Foundation which aims to promote literature in America through a series of programmes and events celebrating American writing. The foundation is named after both the international writers’ organization, PEN, and William Faulkner, who donated his Nobel Prize fund to an award for young writers. They are a not for profit organisation which works with schools and the public to promote exceptional American literature.

The winner of the award will be announced on March 26th and a ceremony will be held to mark the achievement of all five finalists at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC in May. Previous winners have included Annie Proulx, Philip Roth and John Updike.
