In The Loop Nominated for an Oscar

Feb 02, 2010

In the Loop co-written by Tony Roche has been nominated for an Oscar in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.

The film premiered at Sundance in January 2009 and has won critical acclaim and a range of awards and nominations. It stars Peter Capaldi as the foul mouthed enforcer Malcolm Tucker and Tom Hollander as the hapless Minister for International Development. Set in the lead up to a war, the comedy follows US-UK diplomatic relations with the doves and the hawks and those stuck in between.

'The genius of "In the Loop" directed by Armando Iannucci and written by a crack team of British wits, is that it turns this mountain into a series of festering molehills....While "In the Loop" is a highly disciplined inquiry into a very serious subject, it is also, line by filthy line, scene by chaotic scene, by far the funniest big-screen satire in recent memory.' New York Times

‘But maybe the best thing about this hilarious, superb, black comedy is its use of language, veering from elaborate schoolboy profanity to exquisite wordplay and sublime parody of government doublethink. The latter is perfectly embodied in a climactic exchange between Tucker and Foster. "Whether it happened or not," hisses an irate Tucker, "it's true."' The Times *****
