Tracy Chevalier grew up in Washington, DC. She moved to England at the age of 22 and worked for several years as a reference book editor. In 1994, she graduated from the University of East Anglia with an MA in Creative Writing.
Her second novel, Girl with a Pearl Earring, was an international bestseller and won the Barnes and Nobel Discover award. It was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film starring Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson and a West End stage production. Her subsequent novels have all met with critical acclaim and commercial success.
She lives in London with her husband.
