Vintage Classics reissue Stella Gibbons
August 08, 2011
Vintage Classics will reissue a range of ‘lost’ works by Stella Gibbons, the author of the bestselling comic novel
Cold Comfort Farm.
There was a flurry of excitement in the literary press as
Conference at Cold Comfort Farm,
Westwood and
Starlight were published on 3rd August 2011 for the first time in over 20 years as part of Vintage’s acclaimed paperback series. Lynne Truss, a long-time fan of Gibbons’ work,
spoke warmly of the reissues on Radio 4’s
Woman’s Hour on 2 August. Truss’ essay on Westwood,
as serialised in the Guardian on 29 July and 6 August, was written especially as the introduction to the new edition. BBC 4 Extra will repeat both
Cold Comfort Farm and
Westwood between 2 and 9 August, and
Rachel Cooke’s feature on Gibbons appeared in the
Observer Review on Sunday 7 August.
Christmas at Cold Comfort Farm, a collection of tales from the world of
Cold Comfort Farm, will be published in late Autumn 2011 by Vintage Classics with an introduction by Alexander McCall Smith, and by Penguin in the USA.
Vintage Classics will also publish ten other Gibbons novels during Summer 2011:
Ticky,
My American,
The Charmers,
The Bachelor,
The Matchmaker,
Bassett,
Here be Dragons,
White Sand and
Grey Sand,
The Snow Woman and
The Rich House.
