Carolyn Chute lives in southwestern Maine with her husband, Michael. She has been awarded a John Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and a Thorton Wilder Fellowship. Her first novel, The Beans of Egypt Maine was critically acclaimed, described by The New York Times as "startling and original". Merry Men and The School on Heart's Content Road have both been New York Times Notable Books of the Year.
