Reviews

Casting Monks, himself an actor with disability, is a masterstroke, combining reality and simulation. But the sheer histrionic ability - childlike and innocent, desperate, wounded; and then swelling into a luminous magnanimity that turns the tables on everyone - is staggering.

Sydney Morning Herald/The Age Review

The acting, too, is memorable. It may well prove unforgettable. Daniel Monks in the title role and Emma J. Hawkins as Miss Fordham bring an exquisite poignancy to the production. Their scene together — when the lonely Merrick meets the gravely ill Fordham — is the heart, purpose and stratospheric plateau of this extraordinarily accomplished and rewarding production.
