Jane Bailey is the author of seven novels. Her first was shortlisted for the Dillons Prize, and her fifth, What Was Rescued, for the RNA awards in 2017. Her latest book, Sorry Isn’t Good Enough, will be published by Orion in 2022.

She taught French and Italian for a long time, scribbling stories in private. A break came after a recommendation by Beryl Bainbridge, who tutored her on an Arvon writing course. She received news of a book deal whilst in labour with her first daughter. Other books have be born without midwifery, but the child’s voice is often a key element in her work. She also likes to set a good mystery to unravel.

Jane has been a writer-in-residence for Cheltenham Festivals’ First Story for several years, which is based on helping young people from all backgrounds to express themselves creatively.

She lives in Gloucestershire.
