Her most recent book is We Are Not Such Things: The Murder of a Young American, a South African Township, and the Search for Truth and Reconciliation (Random House/Spiegel & Grau, 2016), a New York Times Editors’ Choice and a Spectator Book of the Year. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Harper’s Magazine, The Guardian, The Virginia Quarterly Review, Oprah Magazine, and Marie Claire, among others, and she is a grantee of The Investigative Fund at The Nation Institute and The International Women’s Media Foundation. She lives in New York.
