Simon presented four series of the football programme that took on the feel of a fanzine, often from the pitch side.

The show took a look at various issues concerning the game: games, individual players and teams, rules, facts and figures. Standing Room Only also took a humorous approach to the world of association football with a regular comic strip and comedy sketches.
