Mine by Susi Fox is the story of a GP who has her first baby prematurely.  When she sees him, in shock after the trauma, she is adamant that he is not hers.

No-one believes her, and they conspire together to label her crazy, unfit, mad.   So she must pretend to be happy and sane, while all the time searching frantically for her baby.

Is she mad, and the baby is in fact her son?  Or is she completely compos mentis, and there is a terrible conspiracy at work?

Reviews

Digs deep to examine the dark side of motherhood - mental illness, failure, violent thoughts - and refuses to look away. Mine throws into question the sanity of the narrator, the trustworthiness of doctors and the reader's understanding of right and wrong
